Novelist William Boyd will write the next 007 novel

James Bond creator Ian Fleming died in 1964. Since then seven authors have penned the books for the popular spy novel franchise. Now, American writer William Boyd will take on 007. In an interview with the Radio Times reported on The Bookseller, Boyd said of the coming book: “All I will say is it’s set in 1969. Fleming died in 1964. He was in his mid-50s, so conceivably if he’d looked after himself a bit better, hadn’t smoked and drunk so much, he might have written a James Bond novel that year.” Boyd’s book is set to be released in 2013 which marks the 60th anniversary of Fleming’s first Bond novel, Casino Royale.
