The Jalada Prize for Literature has named seven stories to its first ever longlist:

“Last Wave” by Ivor W. Hartmann
“eNGAGEMENT” by Richard Oduor Oduku
“Discovering Time Travel” By Suleiman Agbonkhianmen Buhari
“For Digital Girls Who Drink Tonic Water at the Bar When Purple Rain Isn’t Enough” By Ytasha L. Womack

The longlisted stories were recognized as the best among those published in the Afrofuture(s) anthology which is supported in part by Kwani Trust. Richard Ali, a founding member of Jalada and one of the judges, said the mots notable stories were “best able to avoid the ‘self-consciousness’ that is always a danger where stories are written with a theme in mind.”

The winners will be announced on March 31, 2015, to coincide with the publication of Jalada’s bonus edition of the Afrofuture(s) anthology.
