Amazon Obtains Patent to Sell "Used" Digital Books logoEarlier this month, Amazon was granted a patent by the U.S. Patent & Trademark Office for a “secondary market for digital objects.” In other words, users can transfer books and other digital files they’ve used to other readers. Sounds a lot like Napster to me, except the “used” object wouldn’t be free. While this sounds like a great service for readers/consumers, It’s not clear how writers would be compensated for such sales. Let’s stay tuned on this one.
