Reuters reports Barnes and Noble shares rose 8.2% this week upon news that investor Daniel R. Tisch increased his stake in the embattled bookseller — becoming its second biggest shareholder. The news comes as a reprieve after two months of negative press surrounding Barnes and Noble’s announcement they planned to slim down to 450 stores over the next 10 years, and reports of tense relations with publisher Simon and Schuster.

No word on how Tisch’s increased stake will impact Barnes and Noble’s future. Tisch has nearly 40 years of experience as an investor, and is a member of New York University’s Board of Trustees, Partnership for Children’s Rights, and Suffield Academy in Connecticut.
